Like “You are what you eat,” we are also what we speak. If your words tear others down or spread gossip, reflect and change.

I went through a lot of different emotions, thought processes, and considered various titles for this piece until I listened to a song titled “I Will Praise You in the Morning” (original lyrics by Jocelyn Soriano) that resonated so profoundly with me. "Let Me Praise You in the Morning" is a powerful and uplifting Christian worship song that gently reminds us to thank God for His faithfulness each and every day. His mercies are new every morning, as beautifully stated in Lamentations 3:22-23, and this song perfectly captures the spirit of worship, prayer, and reflection on His unwavering love as you begin your day. A poignant part of the lyrics reads: “ Let me praise you when I wake up / As I start a brand new day / Let me thank you for the blessings / You are giving me each day.” This deeply reflects how I feel when I open my eyes and take a deep breath, my heart overflowing with gratitude.

During a recent trail walk, I came across a family of deer. They paused and gazed at me for several moments, allowing me to truly admire their grace, strength, and natural beauty. This encounter inspired the creation of this painting, which includes the Bible scripture Habakkuk 3:19: "The Lord God is your strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills."

There are times in life when we must muster every ounce of strength we have to face difficult seasons, and doing so with grace, strength, and beauty is truly powerful. In this piece, I enjoy incorporating texture by using palette knives, various textured brushes, and, uniquely, including wood branches I found on walks around my subdivision after a tornado struck our area. Despite the destruction, I was still able to see the beauty that surrounded me.
